1940-1954 Chevrolet Passenger Car T5 Transmission Adapter (GM T5 with Ford Bolt Pattern) (2130)

When you’re cruising down the road in your classic Chevrolet, do you ever try to grab another gear and then realize that third gear is as high as you can go? We have the solution! Make your car more drivable by putting a 5-speed transmission behind that sweet 6-cylinder engine with our transmission adapter kit.

This T5 transmission adapter kit is used to adapt the Ford pattern T5 transmission to the 1940-1954 Chevrolet passenger car bell housing.

Our transmission adaption kit contains:

– (1) Adapter Plate

– (2) 3/8-16 X 1 ¼ flat head screws

– (2) 3/8-16 x 1 ¼ cap screws

– (2) 3/8 lock washers

– (4) 1/2-13 x 1 ¼ cap screws

– (4) ½ lock washers

This kit is 100% made in the USA. Our adapter plates are precision-machined from high strength 7075 aluminum alloy.

Please read further to ensure this product suits your needs.

The adapter positions the clutch disc in the proper place on the input shaft. No modifications are required on the input shaft or clutch disc for installation.

Examples of the Ford pattern T5 transmissions include:

1986 Chevrolet Astro Van

1993-1995 Chevrolet S10

1996-2002 Chevrolet Camaro V6

Examples of the 1940-1954 Chevy bell housings include the following casting numbers:

PLEASE NOTE:

1) An open drive rear axle is required to complete the transmission conversion.

2) This transmission adapter kit requires a transmission with an input shaft length of 7 1/8” from the trans mounting surface to the end of the shaft. If your transmission input shaft is shorter, you should install an extended pilot bushing into the crank shaft.

3) If your transmission used a hydraulic clutch, you must replace the front bearing retainer with one that has a conventional clutch release bearing sleeve. These are available from Hot Rod Works – please click here to view this product (SKU #: 2115).

4) On manual clutch applications the throw out bearing sleeve on the bearing retainer need’s to be shortened. This is included in the instructions.

More on the clutch disc: The original 1940-1954 clutch disc is 9” diameter, 10 spline. The T5 transmission is typically 26 spline. Use a 1994-1995 S10 2.2L 4 cylinder clutch disc, 9.125” dia, 26 spline. SACHS #1878-654-589.

Use the early Chevy pressure plate and clutch release bearing.
